WINONA LAKE, IN. –
Garland Webb was able to avenge his 2018 runner-up finish in the triple jump with his second national title of the year.
Webb's national champion jump came on his second attempt of the afternoon of 14.91m. That is just shy of his school record which he set two weeks ago at the Mid South Conference Championships of 14.95m. Webb's closest competitor came in at 14.63, Kelvin Campbell of Cincinnati Christian. Garland won his first national title during the Indoor NCCAA Championships in the triple jump as well.
The men's 4x800m relay punched their ticket to Gulf Shores, Alabama for the NAIA National Championship in two weeks with their NCCAA runner-up finish with a time of 7:46.14.
Camryn Snapp,
Bret Crawford,
Josiah Harp, and
Sam Kiser were on the heels of Roberts Wesleyan who was three seconds ahead at 7:43.12. Back in 2018, the 4x800m record was set at the same meet.
Chris Stoeckel was the only athlete of that relay team that was not on this year's team.
The only individual event qualifier for tomorrows finals on the track was
Jordan Thomas. Thomas was able to sneak in the final qualifying spot in ninth with a time of 50.31, just narrowly beating out Southwest Christian's Justin Sawyers.
In the field events,
Jeremiah Parker added to the point total for the Tigers today. In the men's discus, Parker placed seventh overall with a throw of 42.12m.
The Tigers sit in fourth place after day one with 20 team points. Greenville is in the lead with 44 points. The final day of the NCCAA Championships will resume tomorrow morning at 11 AM.
