CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – It was an all-around successful night for the Campbellsville University women's volleyball team as they won their first Mid-South Conference match 25-13, 25-9, and 25-18 over University of Pikeville on Tuesday night.
As a team, the Lady Tigers hit for a .303 percentage in the match as the kills went 45-17 in CU's favor. Campbellsville also had a big disparity in aces (7-2) and blocks (6-0) with a solid advantage in digs (59-47).
On the attack, CU was led by the usually combination of
Sutton Mason and
Sonia Flendrich as the two outside hitters combined for 23 of the 45 kills for the Lady Tigers. It was a complete team effort for Campbellsville as nine different players recorded a kill in the match.
Four different Lady Tigers had four kills as
MaKayla Gray,
Yelyzaveta Sharkova,
Taylor Weirich, and
Sophie Ball all had four kills in the match. Gray led a group of four different CU freshman that saw either their first on-court action or their first action at Gosser Gymnasium as
Danielle Cloutier,
Georgina Julia, and
Man Chin Fung all joined Gray for their first action on the Campbellsville home court.
Cloutier added five assists as the reserve setter behind
Paige Merrick as the sophomore recorded 28 assists, nine digs, and three block assists in the match.
Fung spelled
Jaimie Thompson as the Libero in the third set on Tuesday as the freshman from Hong Kong recorded six digs in the match with Thompson digging out 11 attacks in the first two sets.
The Lady Tigers will enter a hectic part of their schedule coming up as they hit the road for Tennessee for a five-match in three day stretch when they start a seven-match road trip in Pulaski, Tenn. for a rematch with Martin Methodist College on Thursday.
After Thursday's match they will head to Nashville, Tenn. for the Music City Invite where they will play four matches on Friday and Saturday. Then they will finish up the stretch of road matches next Monday and Tuesday against Shawnee State and Brescia.
