Top-seeded Lady Tigers take care of business against No. 10 Lyon at NWCA National Duals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Top-seeded Lady Tiger wrestling dispatched No. 10 Lyon College with ease using five pins in the opening round of the NWCA National Duals with a 39-7 win.

NAIA-ranked No. 2 Campbellsville will now square off against No. 7 University of the Cumberlands for the third time this season on Mat 1 at Freedom Hall. Wrestling begins at 10:30 a.m. ET for a spot in the finals.

The Lady Tigers earned a bye after being named the No. 1-seed and didn't disappoint in their first match of the National Duals. McKenzie Bacich picked up the first five points for CU after Lyon forfeited 101 pounds and that was the first of five more five-point victories for the Lady Tigers.

McKayla Campbell earned a pin in 1:54 over Brianna Leong and then Katlyn Pizzo scored 10 early points earning a tech fall to put the Lady Tigers ahead, 14-0.

Freshman Adriana Lopez lost at 123 pounds to Jasmine Hernandez but her teammates avenged the loss with two-straight pins in a total of 1:53. Two-Time U23 World Team member Abby Nette pinned Alexandrea Banag in 1:11 then it was freshman Randi Robinson taking care of Skyw Williams in 42 seconds – which wasn't the fastest pin for CU on the night.

After dropping the 143 match, Alexia Foca picked up an easy tech fall over Ashley Cook, 10-0, then allowed Kenya Sloan to rally in her match after being down 8-4. Sloan pinned Kelani Corbett in the final period with only 49 seconds left.

The icing on the cake was Alexandra Castillo. She took down Sierra Alfonso in stunning fashion, pinning her in just 22 seconds.
