Sloan wins at 170 pounds while Lady Tigers dominate King University Open

BRISTOL, Tenn. — Nearly 300 points were between No. 2 Lady Tiger wrestling and the closes team as the Campbellsville ran away with the King University Open title on Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Tigers tallied 516 points as a team, while host King University scored just 217 to finish in second place. CU picked up 65 wins combined between the 21 wrestlers competing this weekend and earned 14 Top 5 finishes, led by sophomore Kenya Sloan at 170 pounds.

Sloan earned the lone individual title for the Lady Tigers after winning her three matches and picking up 17.5 team points. On her way to the title, she had to knock off two of her teammates, Morgan Becker in the semifinal, and Mariah Harris in the finals.

Harris finished runner-up and went 2-1 overall. Her semifinal win was a 5-2 victory over former Lady Tiger, WCWA All-American, and current Lions Wrestling Club member, Hannah Gladden, 5-2.

CU had a slew of third-place finishes – Katelin Barnett (101 lbs.), Mia Rodriguez (116 lbs.), Adriana Lopez (123 lbs.), Rory Coscia (130 lbs.), Randi Robison (136 lbs.) and Alexia Foca (155 lbs.).

In fourth place, the Lady Tigers also had a couple representatives – Elena Hughes (109 lbs.), Charlotte Fowler (123 lbs.), Gabby Garcia (143 lbs.), Morgan Becker (170 lbs.), and Liliana Vergara (191 lbs.).

As a team, Campbellsville finished with 21 pins – which was 11 more than the closes team, King University, with nine. CU also had the most tech falls (21).

Individually, Vergara and Coscia finished with three pins – which was tied for the second most in The Open. The fastest pin also went to a Lady Tiger as Coscia pinned her first opponent, Trinity Williamson of Lindenwood, in the blink of an eye of 18 seconds.

The Lady Tigers now have 10 days to prepare for a Top 5 NAIA Dual against top-ranked Life University on Wednesday, Jan. 29.
