Tigers sweep their way to pair of victories against Judson and Greenville

PALOS HEIGHTS, Ill. – The Campbellsville University men's volleyball team didn't even drop one set Friday in their pair of sweep wins against Judson University and Greenville University at the first day of the NCCAA Invitational.
 
The Tigers were absolutely dominant in their first match of the day against Judson, earning the sweep by set scores of 25-19, 25-14, and 25-15 as they had a team total of 36 kills compared to just 16 for the Eagles.
 
John Montalvo had a strong all-around game finishing with the match high in both kills and digs with his first double-double of the season at 10 kills and 17 digs. Montalvo wasn't the most efficient on the attack as he had seven errors on his 36 attempts to finish with a .083 hitting percentage but CU was solid in the game with a .173 hitting percentage.
 
Jason Camacho (7), Max Stotridge (6), Noah Henkel (5), Ryan Smith (4), Jeremy Hernandez (2), Tyler Vermilion (1), and Jose Viera Cerame (1) all added kills for the Tigers behind Montalvo's match leading 10 kills. Henkel was particularly strong defensively as he was credited for seven digs while adding three total blocks with two solo blocks and a block assist in the match.
 
In their 25-15, 25-21, 25-12 win against Greenville, the Tigers were much more efficient on their attacks with a .373 hitting percentage to just .016 for the Panthers. CU had almost 20 more swings on the attack than GU as kills finished 43-17 for Campbellsville and Greenville committing 16 attack errors to CU's 12.
 
Three players that didn't step on the floor in the Tigers' first match of the day led CU in kills in their second as Ramon Matos led with 11, Rafael Cruz was right behind him with nine, and Nils Kleinschmidt added eight. Kleinschmidt was strong on the block as well, contributing to three blocks with one solo and two block assists.
 
Smith got his first action as the primary setter in the match against the Panthers as the freshman set a season/career-high 33 assists in the match. Stotridge (4), Camacho (4), Montalvo (2), Smith (2), Joudiel Poveymirow (2), and Yannik Ahr (1) all got on the board for CU with kills in the match.
 
Men's volleyball will be back at it bright and early tomorrow to finish up pool play at the NCCAA Invitational when they take on Geneva College at 10 a.m. ET/9 a.m. CT in Palos Heights, Ill. to finish up pool play before a potential championship match Saturday at 4 p.m. ET/3 p.m. CT.
