Women's Basketball CU Athletics

Lady Tigers hit the road for the first time in about 20 days to take on Thomas More University

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – After one of their best overall games of the season and a monumental night for Savannah Gregory, the Campbellsville University women's basketball teams prepares to travel to Crestview Hills, Ky. to face off with Thomas More University Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. ET.

Matt Payton, the voice of Lady Tiger and Tiger basketball, will be on the call courtside from the Connor Convocation Center in Crestview Hills to bring the action from both games on Saturday.

The Lady Tigers earned a 50-point victory over Georgetown College by a final score of 99-49 Thursday night at the Powell Athletic Center as Gregory scored a career-high 26 points as her first five points got her over the 1,000-point mark in her career as the 38th member of the women's basketball program to reach that career milestone.

CU's defense was swarming on Thursday as they forced Georgetown into a season-high 34 turnovers that led to 50 of Campbellsville's 99 points.

SERIES FACTS
  • These two successful women's basketball programs have only met twice all the way back in the 1980s as Thomas More had been at the NCAA Division III level up until this season with Campbellsville playing the NAIA level throughout the history of the program.
  • The Lady Tigers won both of the previous meetings with a Jan. 16, 1988 meeting going the way of CU by a final of 79-44 and the very first meeting finishing at an 81-56 score on Nov. 15, 1986.
  • According to Campbellsville Athletics database, neither of the games have been played in Campbellsville with the 1988 game taking place in Crestview Hills and the first meeting being played on a neutral court.

SCOUTING THOMAS MORE
  • The Saints are the reigning NCAA DIII National Champions after an undefeated 33-0 season in 2018-19.
  • In head coach Jeff Hans' ninth season, TMU has a current 15-5 record, which is already tied for the most losses in a season under Hans as that previous season came in his first season leading the Saints.
  • Thomas More's leading scorer and rebounder, Emily Schultz is averaging 14.2 points per game, 56.3 percent from the field, and 7.4 rebounds per game as she is the reigning Mid-South Conference Player of the Week after averaging a double-double in TMU's two wins against Cumberland and Life.
  • The Saints also have a trio of double figure scorers in senior Kaela Saner along with freshmen Courtney Hurst and Zoie Barth with all three shooting over 35 percent from three-point range all three grabbing over 3.5 rebounds per game and Barth leading the team with 5.1 assists per game.

LADY TIGERS SHOW THEIR DEPTH
  • With the Lady Tigers' jumping out to a large early lead against Georgetown, minutes were distributed pretty evenly with the bench production playing a big role in the 50-point win.
  • Bench players for CU scored 50 points led by 11 from Madison Sheppard and Shyla Calbert, along with 10 from Sammy Rogers.
  • Ashlee McGeorge and Lashaya Carman were forces on the offensive glass against GC as they tied for the game-high with seven total rebounds with Carman grabbing five offensive rebound and McGeorge pulling down four.
  • Sophomore Faith Lake was the team's leader in minutes played in the game as she was all over the floor in her 20 minutes of action finishing with two points, two rebounds, three assists, and three steals.

TIGER CLAWZ
  • CU head coach Ginger High Colvin achieved the 20-win total for the 12th-straight time in her 13 seasons leading the charge for the Lady Tigers. The only season she did not lead Campbellsville to a 20-win season was in her first season as head coach when the Lady Tigers won 19 games.
  • Campbellsville is the No. 1 assisting team in NAIA Division I with a team total of 400 so far behind starting Hall's 121 assists, good for No. 2 individually in that category.
  • Forcing turnovers has been a big part of the CU game plan this season as they force their opponents into 27.2 turnovers per game and rank first in NAIA DI in total steals at 335 and turnover margin at +11.4 this season.
  • The three-point shot has been a big benefit for the Lady Tiger offense as they rank No. 3 in the NAIA in team three-point percentage at 38.3 percent behind one of the best three-point shooters in NAIA DI as Lexy Lake ranks No. 1 in total threes made (70), No. 4 in threes made per game (3.3), and No. 9 in three-point percentage (44.3%).

INDIVIDUAL MILESTONES WATCH
  • Upper classmen in the CU starting lineup have been and will be climbing the all-time leader boards in the history of Lady Tiger basketball.
  • Starting with Madison Faulkner joining the 1,000-point club, she now sits at 27th on the all-time scoring list with 1,272 career points.
  • Savannah Gregory just joined Faulkner in the 1,000-point club and now has 1,022 career points. She is also in the top-five on the career steals list as she is currently at 289, recently passing Mackenzie Lee for fourth all-time.
  • Gregory and Lee hold a little more of a connection than just being in the top-five on the career steals list as Gregory become the first Lady Tiger since Lee to reach the 1,000-point milestone during their junior campaigns. Lee eventually finished with 1,462 career-points, which is 16th all-time.
  • Senior Caitlin Hall currently has 542 career assists, recently becoming the sixth player to reach 500 assists in program history.

1,000-WIN PLATEAU
  • In the 45th season of Lady Tiger basketball, Campbellsville reached a milestone that had only been accomplished twice in the history of NAIA women's basketball by winning 1,000 games.
  • The monumental win came in the Lady Tigers 91-59 win over Martin Methodist in Pulaski, Tenn. on Nov. 9 as part of the MSC/SSAC Crossover.
  • Campbellsville joins Wayland Baptist and Union University (Tenn.) as the only other programs to reach the feat as Union is no longer part of the NAIA after moving to the NCAA Division II level.

UP NEXT FOR CU
  • The Lady Tigers will begin the rematch cycle of MSC play next week when they host Life University next Thursday at 6 p.m. ET at the Powell Athletic Center.
