Quick start leads Tigers to much needed Mid-South Conference victory over Life

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Campbellsville University men's basketball team got off to a quick start and never looked back in a much-needed win over Life University, 80-70.

It was all Tigers (14-9, 4-5 MSC) in the first half as they got off to a 24-6 run to start the game over the first eight minutes. Overall in the first half, the Tigers only made six 3-pointers but five of them came during the run.

Alston Davis finished with only six points on the night but that came from two 3-pointers. Five other Tigers made one 3 as CU finished 7-of-19 from deep (37%).

After getting the lead up to as many as 19 with 9:00 left in the opening half, the Tigers went cold and Life (10-12, 1-8 MSC) answered with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to 12 with 3:40 remaining in the half.

Life was able to work the lead to only 10 points but De'undra Singleton hit a free throw to push the lead back to 11 at half, 40-29.

Campbellsville used an 8-2 run to start the second half, including four from Lenorris Mincey, to build its lead back up to 17. But a 9-2 run from the Running Eagles late in the half, cut the lead to nine -- the first single digit lead since 14:53 remaining in the first half.

Campbellsville's lead grew to as large as 18 points in the second half, but the Running Eagles would not go away as the lead was single digits the last two minutes of the game.

Taiveyhon Mason lead the way for the Tigers as he poured in 23 and grabbed a team high 7 rebounds and Lenorris Mincey added a career high 13 points in the victory.

The Tigers forced only 13 turnovers but scored 20 points off those miscues. CU also shot 15-of-18 from the free throw line

Campbellsville will return to action this Saturday, Feb. 1 at 5 p.m. ET, as the Tigers will travel to Lebanon, Tenn. facing Cumberland University.
