CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University women's basketball team earned a solid team win on Thursday night as they defended the Powell Athletic Center with a 98-61 win over Life University.
The Lady Tigers were in control from wire to wire as they scored a season-high 53 points in the first half on 21-39 (53.8%) shooting from the field while also making nine of their 10 free throw attempts in the half.
Campbellsville finished shooting 37-of-67 (55.2%) from the field, 7-for-18 (38.9%) from three-point range, and 17-for-24 (70.8%) from the free throw line. Defensively the Lady Tigers forced 32 Life turnovers while grabbing 21 steals and out rebounded the Running Eagles 40-35 in the game.
The CU defense swarmed during the half creating 14 steals on 24 LU turnovers that led to 33 of the Lady Tigers' 53 points in the half.
Savannah Gregory and
Madison Faulkner were the only players in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively as
Lexy Lake added seven points and a game-high four steals in the opening 20 minutes of action.
Faulkner finished with a game-high 21 points as Gregory and Lake added 15 and 10 respectively. The fourth player for CU in double figures was
Sammy Rogers as she finished with 14 points, seven apiece in each half, as she went 9-for-10 from the free throw line.
It was a strong first quarter for Campbellsville that pushed their largest lead of the early going at 29-9 before finishing the quarter up 29-11. They suffered from a bit of cold shooting early in the second quarter going 0-for-7 from the field for a stretch of over 3 minutes in the quarter after starting on an 8-0 run.
The rough stretch was broken up by back-to-back layups from
Ashlee McGeorge after the score was 37-17. Starting with the McGeorge baskets, CU finished the half outscoring Life 15-11 to end the half at a 53-28 lead.
The second half was more of the same from CU as their depth was able to get quality minutes during the second 20 minutes of play.
Faith Lake and
Madison Sheppard were strong off the bench with eight points apiece, McGeorge and
Shyla Calbert had six points and four rebounds each as Calbert also had a game-high five assists.
Courtney Pritchett stuffed the stat sheet again as she scored four points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out four assists, ripped five steals, and added a blocked shot.
Shelby Harmeyer and
Lashaya Carman also got on the board with four points for Harmeyer on a pair of made shots from the field and Carman's two came on a pair of free throws.
Caitlin Hall,
Cristin Hall, and
Bailey Pedigo may not have gotten points on the board for CU but Caitlin had two assists, both Caitlin and Cristin grabbed a rebound, Pedigo and Cristin added an assist and Pedigo finished with a blocked shot.
The Lady Tigers will play next on the road this Saturday when they travel to Lebanon, Tenn. for a 3 p.m. ET/2 p.m. CT meeting with Cumberland University.
