Lake ties school record with nine threes and scores career-high 29 points in Lady Tigers’ 86-58 win over Cumberland

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – It was a big day for the three-pointer at the Powell Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon as the Campbellsville University women's basketball team hit a new season-high 15 and sophomore guard Lexy Lake tied the school record with nine made threes in the Lady Tigers' 86-58 win over Cumberland University.

Lake also dropped a career-high 29 points as she also added a two-point jumper in the third quarter as she went 10-for-16 from the field and 9-for-15 from deep. She had a couple of opportunities to break the record with her 10th in the fourth quarter but she couldn't connect as she finished with her nine.

Campbellsville also got 17 points from Madison Faulkner on the day where she was honored for scoring 1,000 career points pregame. She also grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double as she was all over the floor adding three assists and a steal to her game.

After a three pointer by Lake to start the game, it was a bit of a rocky start for the Lady Tigers as Cumberland answered with a 7-0 run to lead 7-3. The Phoenix led for a majority of the first quarter until 2:21 mark when they took a 15-13 lead after a Sammy Rogers three-pointer.

Part of the success early on for Cumberland was due in part to a three-quarter court trap press that the Phoenix implemented that created a few turnovers and issues for the Lady Tiger offense through the first seven minutes.

Faulkner and Lake carried the Lady Tigers through the first 20 minutes as Faulkner was leading all scorers with 14 points in the half until Lake hit a three at the buzzer of the second quarter to push the halftime lead to 48-26 at the break.

The second quarter was a dominant one for Campbellsville as they outscored the Phoenix 30-12 in the quarter after starting the period on a 12-0 run.

The Lady Tigers cruised in the second half to extend their lead to as many as 33 during the fourth quarter as they used that big second quarter to keep the lead and allow for their entire lineup to get quality minutes.

Up next for Campbellsville will be a road trip to Marietta, Ga. to face the Running Eagles of Life University for a 6 p.m. ET tip on Monday night.
