MARIETTA, Ga. – Needing just to come back from a halftime deficit for only the second time this season and facing a deficit heading into the fourth quarter for the first time this season, the Campbellsville University women's basketball team earned a 74-63 victory against Life University on Monday night.
On a night where the Lady Tigers were outshot 44.4 percent to 34.3 percent by the Running Eagles, CU was able to pull off a 27-15 fourth quarter and finish the game 20-6 to jump ahead and pull away from Life by the final buzzer.
Sammy Rogers was able to lead all scorers with 18 points to finish her night on only 5-of-14 shooting from the field but going 8-for-11 from the free throw line while grabbing four rebounds.
Courtney Pritchett and
Madison Faulkner joined Rogers in double figures as Faulkner finished with 14 points on 4-of-13 shooting from the field and 6-for-8 from the free throw line. Faulkner played a majority of the game in foul trouble, picking up her fourth foul just 30 seconds into the third quarter.
Pritchett picked up her game in the second half, scoring all 10 of her points in the final 20 minutes while adding a career-high eight rebounds, four assists, a blocked shot, and a steal in the game.
Savannah Gregory had a tough shooting game from the field but added nine points and 10 rebounds to aid the comeback effort for the Lady Tigers as seven of her 10 rebounds came on the offensive glass.
The first half was a worse offensive struggle for the Lady Tigers only hitting nine shots from the field as they went 9-for-37 (24.3%) from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
Fresh off of her Mid-South Conference Player of the Week honor,
Lexy Lake had a rough time in the first half with five points on 2-of-9 shooting from the field and 1-for-8 from three-point territory.
Foul trouble also hindered the CU first half as Faulkner and
Caitlin Hall both picked up three fouls during the opening two quarters with Hall eventually fouling out about halfway through the fourth quarter. Faulkner was able to be aggressive in her seven minutes during the first half but only went 2-for-7 from the field with six points.
With Lake struggling from the floor and Faulkner in foul trouble, Campbellsville struggled to find any go-to options on the offensive end but Rogers,
Ashlee McGeorge, and
Faith Lake were able to pick up some slack as the three combined for 16 points off the bench at halftime.
Campbellsville women's basketball will return home for more Mid-South Conference action on Thursday and Saturday when they host Pikeville and Shawnee State at the Powell Athletic Center.
