ST. PAUL, Minn. – Pool play at the NCCAA Championship didn't end out the way the Campbellsville University women's volleyball team would have hoped as they dropped their final match Friday afternoon 3-0 to Grace College.
The Lancers were able to pull off tight 25-21 and 26-24 set wins in the first and second sets before running away with a 25-14 win in the third set. The second set was a back-and-forth affair that really seemed turn the momentum in favor of Grace as they were able to come back from down 21-19 to eventually win the set 26-24.
Offensively for the Lady Tigers,
Stela Velinova tied for the match-high with 10 kills as she also had an efficient match with only three errors on 18 attempts for a .389 hitting percentage.
Setter
Paige Merrick followed up her triple-double match yesterday with a double-double against Grace as she had 27 assists and 12 digs while adding two kills and a block to her day.
Sutton Mason (7),
Sophie Ball (6), and
Sonia Flendrich (5), were the next highest kill totals of the CU attackers with Ball getting the majority of the attack attempts in the match with 30 swings on the ball. Ball also added two blocks and led the Lady Tigers with 13 digs in the match.
With the 1-2 record in pool play, Campbellsville has been eliminated from the NCCAA Tournament as it will also wrap up their fall as these three matches were the only official matches the Lady Tigers were able to compete in.
CU women's volleyball will return to the court for the altered 2020-21 schedule with a handful non-conference matches in January before beginning on Feb. 15.
