BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – After an NCCAA semifinal appearance and a 5-1 record in the fall, the Campbellsville men's soccer team received 89 voting points in the Mid-South Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll to slot in at No. 4.
Just ahead of the Tigers in the top-three spots are Lindsey Wilson (113) at the top spot, Life University (112) a single point behind in second, and newcomer Bethel University claims the third spot with 97 points.
Another new team to the MSC, Martin Methodist holds the fifth spot while also earning a first place vote, the only first place vote to not go to either Life or Lindsey Wilson as they received five and six first place votes respectively.
The Tigers have had a successful non-conference slate in the fall for that 5-1 record as they've scored 21 goals compared to their opponents only score two goals in six games. Both of those goals against came in the NCCAA Tournament in their 2-1 win against Erskine College and their 1-0 defeat against Grace College.
Offensively, the success has been widespread throughout the team as 11 different players have recorded points for CU in only six games so far. The goal scoring effort has been led by the striker tandem of
Sebastiano Musu and
Sergio Tarrida with Musu leading the way at six goals and Tarrida netting four goals while spelling Musu off the bench.
Defensively, goalkeeper
Jeremi Campagnolo hasn't been too busy averaging just over two saves per game, but he did make career-highs in saves at the NCCAA tournament to lead to his 13 total saves on the year so far. Campagnolo along with the defensive back line anchored by center backs
Connor Grant and
Marc Boye have been able to keep the ball out of the net very well during the fall semester for the significant goal differential.
Mid-South Conference play will begin on Sunday, Feb. 14 for the Tigers when they play host to rival Lindsey Wilson College at Finley Stadium.
