Tiger Esports Weekly Recap – Oct. 26 to Oct. 31

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – It was a week full of wins for the Campbellsville University Esports team from Oct. 26 to Oct. 31 as the Tigers continue success over multiple titles during the 2020-21 season.

The Super Smash Bros. team continues to be the headliner as the varsity team stayed undefeated after their win this week. The team of Andrew Edwards (Robin), Caleb Spencer (Snake), Darrel Dick (Pac-Man), and Jeffery Short (Palutena) were able to pull off a 2-0 win.

Spencer was able to carry the Tigers through the first set and going into the second set, CU was able to read player habits of their opponents and use three of their max of four players to earn the second-set set win and sweep.

Campbellsville's Smash varsity team ends the NACE regular season without dropping a single set all season and head into the national playoffs as the top seed with their first round matchup coming up tonight against Montgomery County Community College.

That playoff match can be watched live at 7:30 p.m. ET on the Esports team's Twitch channel at https://www.twitch.tv/esports_cu.

The Smash academy team of Timothy Terrell (R.O.B.), Cody Spalding (Samus), John Luke Roberts (Young Link), and Tucker Harley (Palutena) fell 2-1 against Manchester University as the academy team finished regular season NACE competition 2-3.

CU's Rocket League team earned a win against University of the Cumberlands last Saturday 3-2. The trio of Ronnie Dufour, Samuel Venables, and Taren Logsdon had to come back from down two games to none and pull of the last three games to win 3-2. Of course, those three wins didn't come easy as game five went to overtime where Venables set up Dufour for the game and match-winning score.

The Overwatch team of Kaden Price, Michael Kendrick, Zachary Budd, Reece Brinley, Alexandra Rhoton, and Aaron Burns completed their first season as a team with wins over Keiser University Pembroke Pines and Wayland Baptist to finish their year at 6-4.

Finally, the League of Legends team continued on with their season as they dropped a pair of matches to Lyon College and Emory University.

The LoL varsity team of Caleb Rigsby, KeAndre Lee, Oscar Saucedo, Jacob Evans, and James Mattingly was able to force a third game after dropping the first round. Rigsby used a double kill along with Lee stealing dragon and baron helped put CU over the finish lane, grabbing the only win for the Tigers in the match.

The academy team of Micah Abshear, Jaxon Wheatley, Garrett Phelps, Ashton Paiz, and Matthew Schueller was defeated by Emory 2-0.
