Tigers’ comeback falls short as Martin Methodist comes away with a 92-85 win

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University men's basketball team dropped their second-straight in Mid-South Conference play as they dropped a 92-85 game to Martin Methodist College Saturday evening at the Powell Athletic Center.

The Tigers continued to fight back in the game despite being down by as much as 15 points with 5:30 left in the game as they pulled the game to within five points at a 90-85 MMC lead with 1:57 left to go in the game. CU went on to miss their final five shots from the field as the Redhawks made a pair of free throws to extend that lead to the final of 92-85.

Campbellsville got a strong individual effort from point guard Taiveyhon Mason as he scored 26 points for the second-straight game while adding seven rebounds and four assists. Ross Ryan and Lenorris Mincey were the only other players in double figures for CU as Ryan scored 12 with a team-high eight rebounds and Mincey adding 11 points and six rebounds.

Martin Methodist's Teddy Fifer scored a game-high 36 points on 12-of-21 shooting as he added six of the team's 12 three-pointers in the game. Adarion Hudson and Brady Brown were both in double figures as Hudson added seven assists and six steals with Brown finishing a rebound shy of a double-double with a game-high nine rebounds.

Both teams shot an almost identical shooting percentage with CU finishing at 43.7 percent and MMC finishing at 43.6 percent but the Tigers shooting dropped off significantly from the first half (51.4%) to the second half (35.29%), while the Redhawks remained consistent around that 43.6 percent mark.

Points off of turnovers was a big determining factor in the game as Martin Methodist scored 14 points off of 17 Campbellsville turnovers with CU only scoring seven points off of the 10 Redhawks' turnovers.

The Tigers only have one more game remaining prior to the Christmas break as they will travel to Williamsburg, Ky. for a matchup with the University of the Cumberlands Patriots next Tuesday at 7 p.m. ET.
