CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – It was a tough day for offense Monday afternoon as the Campbellsville University women's basketball team earned a 70-43 win over Bethel in CU's Mid-South Conference opener.
Both teams shot under 35 percent from the field as the Lady Tigers were able to have a little more of an efficient offense than the Wildcats as Campbellsville shot 22-of-63 (34.9%) with Bethel going 16-for-52 (30.8%) from the field.
Despite the shooting troubles on both sides, CU was able to protect the ball better than Bethel as the turnovers finished at 31 giveaways for the Wildcats compared to only 15 for the Lady Tigers. Campbellsville was only able to turn that into 18 points off of turnovers compared to 10 points off of turnovers for Bethel.
Reigning Mid-South Conference Player of the Week,
Sammy Rogers finished with a game-high 14 points but took 15 shots to get there going 5-of-15 from the field. Lexy and
Faith Lake were the only other players in the entire game to score in double figures with Lexy scoring 12 points and Faith adding 10 off the bench.
Junior guard
Madison Sheppard was a basket away from double figures as she was the most efficient offensive player on either side finishing 4-of-6 from the field for nine points.
Savannah Gregory led the defensive charge, as usual, finishing the game with seven of the 19 Campbellsville steals.
None of the Bethel players had more than nine points led by Anya Patterson off the bench as they played a strong defensive game as well despite taking the loss. The Wildcats had eight blocks as a team led by the five from forward Mickey Head as she also led all players grabbing 13 total rebounds in the game.
Up next for the Lady Tigers will be a road game in Mid-South Conference play when they travel to Pikeville, Ky. to take on the Bears this Friday for a 5:30 p.m. tip at the Appalachian Wireless Arena.
