Camacho's dominant first set sparks Tigers to straight set win of Midway

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – As Campbellsville returned home for another Mid-South Conference battle, they were able to power through Midway in straight sets.

After coming out firing on the offensive end, the NAIA's No. 1 Tigers (17-2, 5-0 MSC) were able to capture the 3-0 win, 25-14, 25-14, 25-16, over the Eagles of Midway (4-7, 0-5 MSC).

Jason Camacho led the way for CU after a strong first set with seven of the team's 13 kills, all while adding five aces to his set totals. Camacho was able to put together these numbers on his way to a near perfect set, hitting 1.000 and only recording a pair of service errors.

Campbellsville closed their dominant first set with an attacking percentage of .800.

As play continued into the second and third sets, the Tiger hitting percentages dwindled, but stellar defensive play stifled the Eagle attacking line as well.

Through the second set, Camacho was able to tally three more kills to his total, while CU limited Midway to just eight kills and seven errors.

After a pair of 25-14 wins, Campbellsville looked to keep their perfect record in Gosser this season alive, not dropping a set at home this season.

By limiting Midway to a .000 attacking percentage in the third, while record 4.5 blocks, CU was able to pick up the 25-16 set win.

Camacho was able to add another trio of kills to his evening totals for a season high 13 kills on an impressive .647 hitting night. Joudiel Poveymirow followed Camacho's numbers with nine kills of his own on 15 attempts.

Defensively, it was Ramon Matos who led Campbellsville by tallying six blocks and three digs, while picking up five kills of his own.

Midway's Victor Bazzo, the tried to spark the Eagles with 11 kills of his own, but was unable to do so as he was only one of two Midway players to hit for a positive percentage.

The Tigers rolled to their fifth straight sweep of the season and fifth in the Gosser Gymnasium this season.

Campbellsville will now look to travel to Bluefield College on Friday, Feb. 21st for another Mid-South Conference battle at 7 p.m. ET.
