Lady Tiger softball heads to Reinhardt Invitational for four-game set this weekend

WALESKA, Ga. — Lady Tiger softball heads to the 2020 Reinhardt University Invitational at Ken White Softball Field this weekend to play some of the best NAIA programs in the country. 
 
No. 13 Campbellsville is scheduled for two games each day as it will play Freed-Hardeman on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. ET and the nightcap will feature the Lady Tigers against the host Reinhardt Eagles at 8 p.m. ET. The games have been pushed back due to early-morning frost in the Waleska area.
 
On Sunday, Campbellsville plays a familiar foe from 2015, USC Beaufort, with a quick turnaround at 9 a.m. ET. The Lady Tigers finish the Reinhardt Invitational at 1 p.m. against Martin Methodist College.
 

CU Sports Network:
  • All four games will air on the Campbellsville University Sports Network as Jordan Alves returns to broadcast the action. 
  • Fans can tune in 15 minutes before each games on www.campbellsvilletigers.com/watch and also on Apple TV and the ROKU Streaming Apps by searching Campbellsville Sports Network.
New Mid-South Conference Teams added next season:
  • Starting in 2020-21, the Mid-South Conference will have three new teams and two of them will square off with the Lady Tigers this weekend. 
  • Martin Methodist, Freed-Hardeman and Bethel University will push the conference teams to 11 starting next season. 
  • All three are becoming full-time members of the MSC.
History vs. Freed-Hardeman: 
  • Since 2008, the Lady Tigers and Lady Lions have only faced five times and Freed-Hardeman holds a 3-2 record over CU. 
  • The previous meeting came in the NAIA Opening Round at Buchanon Park in Bowling Green. Jaqueline Roof hit a solo bomb in the third inning to propel the Lady Tigers in the Opening Round finals. 
  • The three loses to Freed-Hardeman have all came on the road in Henderson, Tenn.
Deeper look at Freed-Hardeman:
  • The Lions are playing their first game of 2020 when their schedule starts at the Reinhardt Invitational. 
  • Last season, Freed went 1-2 in the American Midwest Conference Tournament and ended its year with a 25-15 record overall.
  • The Lions return their leading hitter from last season, Annalise Jarnagin. She hit .408 last season and the junior is a career .363 hitter with 14 home runs and 67 RBI. 
  • Sophie Dunavant was the second leading hitter last season and also returns. She hit .407 with four home runs and 16 RBI. She also led the team with a .481 on-base-percentage. 
  • In the circle, the Lions return a 15-game winner from last year in Morgan Crawford. She went 15-8 with 20 complete-games and five shutouts. Opponents hit .252 off her and she struck out 73 batters in 147 innings. 
  • No. 2 pitcher Emily Bradford also returns after an 11-4 record and 2.92 ERA. 
History vs. Reinhardt:
  • Campbellsville holds a 3-0 record against the Eagles since 2006. The last meeting came in the 2017 NAIA Southern Challenge at USC Beaufort.
  • In the series, the Lady Tigers have outscored Reinhardt, 15-4.
Deeper look at the Eagles:
  • Reinhardt lost its top two hitters from last season but return Alise Hooks after she hit .369 and led the team in stolen bases with 11. Emily Draper also returns in the outfield after hitting .341 with two homers. 
  • In the circle, the Eagles return Ansley Byers after she went 12-6 in 118.1 innings pitcher. 
  • Lindsey Sheppherd returns after going 5-5 with a 3.18 ERA through 74.1 innings as well.
  • Reinhardt is already 6-2 this year after playing four games and going 4-1 at the Georgia Gwinnett Grizzly Open. 
  • The Eagles beat Rio Grande, 7-2, and Cumberlands, 7-6, on Day one. On Day two, Reinhardt because Cumberlands again, 9-8, and lost to the host Grizzlies, 5-3.
  • Reinhardt enters after sweeping West Virginia Tech earlier this week in a doubleheader. 
History vs. USC Beaufort:
  • The Lady Tigers and Sand Sharks are both 2-2 in the series history. 
  • The last meeting came in 2017 at the NAIA Southern Challenge when USCB beat Campbellsville, 9-2. 
  • In 2015, USCB beat Campbellsville in the NFCA Classic, 3-0, but the Lady Tigers sought revenge in the NAIA Opening Round and it paid off. 
  • CU won 6-5 and 7-2 in the Opening Round after coming back from the loser's bracket clinching a spot in the NAIA World Series. The two games featured 19 innings of dramatic give-and-take softball that took nearly five hours to complete.
  • The 6-5 win in the Opening Round finals first game went 12 innings – which was the longer game in CU history. The winner-take-all game was a 7-2 win victory.
Deeper look at the Sand Sharks:
  • No. 20 USC Beaufort has 10 games under its belt already. The Sand Sharks are 9-1 overall with their lone loss, 2-1, to Middle Georgia State. 
  • The Sand Sharks have outscored opponents 48-22 thus far as Taylor Boykin leads the way with a .429 average. 
  • In the 10 games, USCB has stolen 21-of-22 bases with Rachel Frankhouser leading the way with five. 
  • In the circle, it's been Maria Molloseau with five starts and boasting a 4-1 record. Her 1.04 ERA has been solid in 33.2 innings with 23 strikeouts. 
History vs. Martin Methodist: 
  • Martin Methodist boasts a 6-3 record over Campbellsville since 2006. 
  • The last meeting came in 2014 when the Lady Tigers won 5-3 in Decatur, Georgia. 
  • Campbellsville has won three of the last four games overall. Martin Methodist won the first five in the series from 2006 to 2012. 
Deeper look at the RedHawks:
  • Hannah Raegan leads the way early with a .455 average (5-of-11) to start the year with two solo home runs. 
  • In the series, Maddie Locker and Samantha King have both earned two starts. Locker has a 3.34 ERA in 14.2 innings while King has a 5.25 ERA in eight innings. 
  • Last season, Sabrina Gilliam led the way hitting .487 with eight home runs and 54 RBI. She's just hitting .267 in the first four games so far this year.
Campbellsville sweeps Brescia on Opening Day:
  • The Lady Tigers outscored the Bearcats, 22-1, on Monday, Feb. 17. Campbellsville won 7-0 in the first game and 15-1 in the night cap. 
  • CU was led at the plate by Lexi Miller with four RBI and going 3-for-6 with a walk and scoring two runs. 
  • Ryley Whitney went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and three RBI, while Payton Blades was 3-for-9 scoring three runs and driving in two. 
  • Lastly, Hannah Judd celebrated her birthday with the first round-tripper of the season for the Lady Tigers and went 3-for-7 overall three RBI and two runs scored.
