Tigers suffer first sweep loss of the season 25-19, 25-22, 26-24 to Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Coming off of a tough five-set loss on Thursday night, the Campbellsville University men's volleyball team lost a 3-0 match to Limestone College on the road Friday night.

The Tigers have now dropped six-straight sets after losing a 2-0 match lead last night to Belmont Abbey then being swept 25-19, 25-22, 26-24 on Friday against the Saints. Over the last two matches, CU has dropped more sets than they did through their previous 12 matches to start the season.

Campbellsville recorded more kills (32) than Limestone (27) and the points scored for each team was even at 42-42 but CU handed the Saints too many points off of both attacking and service errors.

The Tigers committed 25 attack errors on 105 attempts in part of CU's season-low .067 hitting percentage in the match. Those 25 errors were also a season-high for a match in which Campbellsville only went three sets.

On the serve, CU committed 16 service errors to only nine for the Saints as LC also added five service aces compared to just two for Campbellsville.

The second set was the best opportunity for Campbellsville to win a set as they owned a 20-16 lead late in the set but a 6-0 run behind the serve of Francisco Salinger Cenzual put the Saints up 22-20 as they never relinquished the lead in the set.

Freshman setter Ryan Smith had a solid night for the Tigers finishing with a team-high 19 assists while adding three blocks, two kills, and a dig on the night. Yannik Ahr led CU the match in kills with 10 but he also led the Tigers in attack errors with seven.

Rafael Cruz and Ramon Matos each added seven kills as Matos added four block assists with a hitting percentage of .385. Cruz also struggled in the efficiency area as he had six errors on a team-high 26 attempts for a .038 hitting percentage.

Campbellsville will look to bust this slump tomorrow afternoon when they take on North Greenville University for a 3 p.m. ET first serve against the Crusaders.
