KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Over the weekend, the Lady Tiger swim program took to the pool to begin their postseason competition at the Mid-South Conference Championships.
CU began competition on Thursday where they sent athletes to compete in the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, and 50 Freestyle.
Hannah Rhodenbaugh led the quartet of Lady Tigers in the event as she marked a career best 5:27.33 in the preliminary round, before heading to finals to record a 13
th place finish.
Hannah Hager (5:52.65),
Mikayla Runner (6:10.44), and
Clarice Ritter (6:54.98) joined Rhodenbaugh in the event. While Runner and Ritter set season bests, the trio was unable to reach the finals.
Anna Lewis and
Lexie Upton later went on to compete in the 200 IM as the pair qualified for finals, swimming 2:51.46 and 2:36.25. Upton led Lewis to place 15
th, while Lewis followed one place later.
Sara Beth Howard threw together the best day one performance for CU as she was able to mark a career mark in the 50 free (25.91) to earn an NAIA B-cut. She then topped that performance in the finals as she went on to place 14
th.
The season best mark continued on Friday for the Lady Tigers, as Upton (5:37.28) and Lewis (6:04.96) now joined the 400 IM, making their ways to the finals, to place 10
th and 11
th respectively.
Anna Hayes then joined the action with career best marks in the 100 fly and 100 breaststroke in both the preliminary and final rounds. In the final, Hayes was able to mark a 1:14.48 in the fly and 1:29.27 in the final for a pair of 16
th and 11
th place finishes.
Faith Hyde was able to work her way in the water on Friday as well, as she marked a 1:06.33 in the 100 backstroke finals for 15
th.
The Lady Tigers closed the evening as the relay team of Rhodenbaugh, Hayes, Hyde, and Howard swam a 4:34.4 for fifth in the 400-yard medley relay.
Campbellsville ended up closing competition on Saturday behind another variety of career best marks.
Rhodenbaugh led the day off for the Lady Tigers in the 200 backstroke as she marked a career best 2:11.55 for an national A-cut mark. She was able to finish in fifth overall in the event. On the day, Rhodenbaugh was also able to mark a career best B-cut with a 19:14.34 in the 1650 freestyle for 10
th place in the event.
Upton and Hayes also got back in the water as the pair marked season bests of 3:00.58 and 3:10.26 in the 200-yard breaststroke for 12
th and 13
th place.
Hyde ended up closing the meet for CU, as she marked a 12
th place fiish with a 2:45.15 in the 200-yard butterfly.
Over the competition, Campbellsville was able to gather 169 points for CU to close the meet in seventh place. The University of the Cumberlands took the team title with 806 total points.
The Lady Tigers will be back in action as a part of the NAIA Championships on March 4
th.
