CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers took advantage of the warmer weather on Sunday afternoon as they closed their three-game weekend set with a 6-1 win over Roosevelt University.
After a 12-3 win over the Lakers (1-7) last night, the Campbellsville (11-5) bullpen shutdown the Roosevelt bats to pick up the five-run victory. Only allowing a pair of hits on the afternoon, the Tigers rallied behind a five run fourth inning.
Brady Tedesco started the day on the mound for CU and was able to work around four walks on the afternoon by only allowing one hit through his four inning outing.
A one-out walk in the third did happen to haunt Tedesco after a wild pitch and a single from Matt Merrera brought in the lone Laker run on the day.
Nonetheless, in the fourth, the Tigers capitalized on mistakes from Roosevelt following a pair of leadoff free bases as
Jorge Ortiz was hit by a pitch and
Eddy Arteaga worked a walk.
Following a pair of pop flies, the Campbellsville threat did not look as though they would come around to score, but
Adbiel Morales was able to reach on a booted backhand and
Cale Thompson was hit by another pitch to put CU on the board.
The Tigers continued to work in the inning as
Colton Titus stepped up to the plate to clear the bases with a double deep down the left field line before eventually coming around to score on a single from
Jack Bauer.
With CU up 5-1, DeShawn Welch came in to replace Tedesco, but struggled to find the zone, loading the bases with just one out. Nonetheless,
Hunter McIntosh (1-1) was able to step in in relief to fire one pitch, ending the inning on a 6-4-3 double play.
McIntosh continued to work through the seventh only allowing one base runner on the afternoon.
In the seventh, Campbellsville was able to add another run to their total following pair of hits from Arteaga and
Tommy Sepulveda.
Steven Butts and
Jesse Davis tossed an inning each in the eighth and ninth, sitting the Laker batters down in order to close the ball game.
On the afternoon, Titus, Bauer, and Sepulveda led the Tigers with a pair of hits and accounted for five of the six RBIs.
Campbellsville will now look toward a tough week, facing the two remaining undefeated teams in the NAIA beginning with IU Southeast on Wednesday at 2 p.m. ET and hosting their first Mid-South Conference series with a three-game weekend set with the University of the Cumberlands.
