Tigers explode for 15 runs against No. 11 Cumberlands to pick up first MSC win of 2020

Box Score CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — After falling in both games on Saturday, No. 25 Campbellsville picked up a run-rule victory over No. 11 University of the Cumberlands, 15-5.

The Tigers (13-8, 1-2 MSC) had big days from Cale Thompson and Tommy Sepulveda as both had three hits and combined for five RBI. Abdiel Morales led the way with four RBI with Eddy Artega going 2-for-4 and driving in the eventual game-winning runs with a double in the eighth.

The top of the order did most of the damage, driving in 14 of the 16 runs.

Aaron Hutchinson (2-0) earned the win in relief of Brady Tedesco as he didn't make it to the fifth inning allowing four earned runs. Hutchinson was solid on the hill allowing only two hits and one run with striking out two through 3.2 innings. Jesse Davis also saw time in the eighth inning without giving up a Cumberlands (19-2, 2-1 MSC) run.

The Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the second before Campbellsville tallied a four-spot in the bottom half. Colton Titus earned a bases loaded walk before Thompson delivered his first RBI with an infield single scoring Tyler Cox. Two more runs scored on a Morales fielder's choice and error by the Patriots – who had four miscues in game three of the series.

Cumberlands tied the game in the third with two more runs off Tedesco but Campbellsville regained the lead for good, 5-4, after a Jorge Ortiz RBI ground out.

The Tigers added single runs in the fourth and fifth. Sepulveda singled to left field driving in Titus and then Titus delivered a squeeze bunt scoring Cox to put CU ahead, 7-4.

The seventh inning saw two more runs came across but then a seven-run eighth sealed the deal for Campbellsville. Grant McQueary got in on the fun with an RBI single, while Thompson, Morales, Sepulveda and Eddy Artega all picked up RBIs. Artega capped it all with the two-run double

Cumberlands' Koby Silvy (1-1) picked up the loss after allowing six runs – three earned – and didn't make it out of the fourth inning. The Patriots tossed out six total pitches with five of them giving up runs.
