CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – An early second half run spelled doom for the Campbellsville University men's basketball team as they fell to Life University 88-70 Saturday afternoon in the Powell Athletic Center.
The Running Eagles held a 41-34 halftime lead but were able to start the first 5:20 of the second half outscoring the Tigers 17-2 to push their lead to 22 points at 58-36. From that point on, CU was unable to get the game inside of an 18-point game as they did it one other time prior to the final 88-70 final score.
Life was led by the tandem of Jordan Hernandez and Isaiah Hart as both finished with 20 or more points with Hernandez scoring a game-high 22 points and Hart right behind him with 20. Hernandez knocked down six of his 11 three-point attempts as the Running Eagles knocked down 15 three pointers as a team compared to just eight for the Tigers.
Rebounding margin was a big factor in the game as well with LU's final team rebounds finishing at 51 total, 32 defensive and 19 offensive rebounds. Campbellsville finished the game with 33 total rebounds as three Running Eagles had more rebounds than the leading rebounder for CU.
The Tigers leading scorer was
Taiveyhon Mason as he scored 21 points after going 7-of-15 from the field. The supporting cast was limited to only two other players scoring in double figures as both
Alston Davis and
Jacob King added 12 and 10 off the bench for CU.
It was King's first game action since Nov. 7 as he suffered a wrist injury that knocked him out of 10 games before his return against Life today. King didn't have the most efficient shooting game, finishing 2-of-6 from the field but hitting 4-of-5 free throws while adding four rebounds, three assists, and no turnovers.
Campbellsville will have Monday off for the first time this calendar year as they will prepare for a pair of road games in Tennessee next week when they face Feed-Hardeman on Jan. 21 and Bethel on Jan. 23.
