MCKENZIE, Tenn. – In only their second game of the 2021 calendar year, the Campbellsville University women's basketball team earned a 69-57 on the road against Bethel University Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Tigers worked without both Faith and
Lexy Lake as that forced junior
Madison Sheppard into the starting lineup for the first time in her career as she broke or tied career-highs in points, rebounds, shot attempts, and minutes. Sheppard finished with a team-high 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting in 31 minutes while adding seven rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
CU outscored the Wildcats in every quarter but not by much as the largest quarter margin was just six points in the 19-13 fourth quarter that helped ice the game for the Lady Tigers. All but one of the Campbellsville starting lineup of Sheppard,
Sammy Rogers,
Courtney Pritchett,
Bailey Pedigo, and
Savannah Gregory played over 30 minutes in the game.
That one that played under 30 minutes was Pritchett, but she was one of the team's four double figures scorers as she finished with 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal in just 25 minutes in her first action since Dec. 31.
The secondary frontcourt position with Rogers was a three-person rotation of Pritchett,
Sarah Sutton, and
Ashlee McGeorge as both Rogers and Sutton finished in double figures with 15 and 12 respectively. McGeorge played a strong supporting role in 14 minutes hitting a pair of free throws for her only points while adding three rebounds and two assists.
Pedigo had strong game at the point guard position with six points, six assists, four rebounds, and three steals with only one turnover in a team-high 37 minutes. Gregory led the Lady Tigers with nine rebounds but struggled from the floor missing all of her four shots but hitting each of her four free throws as she also added three steals and two blocks.
Bethel had two players in Millie Bryant and Jani Crawford finish with 18 points but their next highest point total was just seven from Mickey Head. Head finished with the game-high in rebounds as she snagged 10 boards while adding three blocked shots.
The Lady Tigers will have another road game next Monday as they will play a make-up game against University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky. at 5:30 p.m. ET.
