CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – In a rematch of a tightly contested game of from back in December, the Campbellsville University women's basketball team was able to pull out a four-point win over University of Pikeville Thursday night at the Powell Athletic Center.
The Lady Tigers held as much as a 10-point lead in the fourth quarter, and even led by 17 in the third, but UPike hung around to cut the lead to two points at 76-74 with under a minute to go. After a shot clock violation with 14 seconds left, the Bears drew up a play that got Sierra Feltner an open two-point attempt to tie but she missed the 10-footer.
CU's
Courtney Pritchett held good rebounding position as she was fouled over the back by Zaria Hollier to send Pritchett to the free throw line. Pritchett, an 88-percent free throw shooter, nailed both shots from the charity stripe to ice the game for the Lady Tigers at the four-point margin with just four seconds remaining.
Pikeville bookended the game by outscoring Campbellsville by a single point in the first quarter and five points in the fourth quarter, but it was a 23-19 second and an 18-12 third quarter that propelled CU to hold onto their lead. UPike's Brianna Burbridge scored 20 points as she finished both meetings against the Lady Tigers with 20 or more and she added 14 rebounds for a double-double.
Campbellsville had four players in double figures led by
Sammy Rogers' 15 points while she added a team-high eight rebounds.
Savannah Gregory added 14 points with
Madison Sheppard and
Lexy Lake both adding 10 in Sheppard's second-straight start and Lake's return from COVID-19 protocol.
Both Pritchett and point guard
Bailey Pedigo stuffed the stat sheet without reaching double digit points as Pritchett finished with nine points and seven rebounds while Pedigo scored seven points, grabbed nine rebounds and tied a career-high with nine assists.
The supporting cast for Burbridge and the Bears had strong nights as well as Feltner added 15 out of the starting lineup and Alexis Reed scored 17 points off the bench. Both of those guards did turn it over five times as Pikeville turned it over 22 times in the game that led to 28 CU points.
Campbellsville will hit the road for their next two games starting with a Saturday afternoon matchup at Freed-Hardeman in Henderson, Tenn. for a 2:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. CT start.
