No. 2 Lady Tigers earns MSC regular season title with dominant wins over Lourdes and No. 6 Cumberlands

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — No. 2 Campbellsville University women's wrestling flexed its muscles against not only an up-and-coming program Lourdes University but also No. 6 University of the Cumberlands on Friday night.

The Lady Tigers won 43-3 over Lourdes – a newcomer to the Mid-South Conference – and 35-11 over Cumberlands. The two wins secure the MSC regular season title as the Lady Tigers swept conference duals with a 5-0 record – including a win over Life University, which moved to No. 1 over CU this week in the NAIA poll.

The regular season title is third for the Lady Tigers in the last four years since the conference tabbed women's wrestling an official sport.

Tonight, it was the Lady Tigers earning three total wins over ranked wrestlers against Cumberlands.

Highlighting the night, it was No. 1 McKayla Campbell winning 12-0 over No. 5 Jaine Stephens in 2:46. Also, No. 2 Emma Walker earned a 10-0 tech fall over No. 11 Hailey Budney. The third ranked matchup was No. 4 Kendra Thompson vs. No. 5 Ashley Ikner. Thompson made quick work of Thompson with a pin in 1:46.

Lourdes, wrestling short-handed tonight, had to forfeit five of the 10 matches against Campbellsville. The Lady Tigers had a pin and three tech falls for wins over the Gray Wolves.
