Georgetown’s second half run leads to 79-65 CU loss

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Looking to upset the No. 6 team in the NAIA rankings, the Campbellsville University men's basketball team hung around for a half but eventually fell to Georgetown College by a final score of 79-65.

Coming out of the halftime break with the slim lead of 34-32 for Georgetown, they started the first 5:31 seconds of the half on a 16-2 run to pull their lead to 50-34. During that stretch Georgetown hit seven shots from the field, two three pointers and five two-point shots, as Campbellsville struggled missing six shots and committing five turnovers.

GC grew that lead to as many as 22 at one point during the second half and kept their lead about 20 for the remainder of the game before CU was able to string together some late baskets late in the half to cut the final deficit to 14 at the buzzer.

The biggest determining factor in the defeat came from beyond the three-point line as Georgetown went 12-for-29 (41.4%) from deep and Campbellsville finished only 5-of-21 (23.8%) for a difference of 21 points in the game. Georgetown's strong shooting night was led by Derrin Boyd's 25-point performance as he went 10-for-14 from the field and 5-of-9 from deep.

Kyran Jones added a 3-for-4 three-point shooting night for Georgetown on his way to 16 points while adding a game-high 20 rebounds. Jones' 20 rebounds accounted for exactly half of the team's 40 rebounds in the game.

Campbellsville was only outrebounded by three overall in the game (40-37) as Lenorris Mincey (8), Jay'von Jackson (8), and Taiveyhon Mason (7) all had strong games on the glass.

CU struggled from the field as a whole along with their struggles from three-point range as they shot 25-of-68 (36.8%) from the field. Mason led the way for Campbellsville with 20 points while adding those seven rebounds along with five assists.

Jackson was the second leading scoring adding 14 off the bench with Max Reyes finishing with his fourth-straight game in double figures ending the night with 12.

Campbellsville will now get on the road for two-straight games starting this Thursday when they travel to Thomas More University and Shawnee State University this Thursday and Saturday.
