WILLIAMSBURG, KY – In a back and forth match all night, the Lady Tigers fall on the road to the Patriots 3-1 Friday evening.
Campbellsville was able to claw their way back into all four sets after being down substantially showing fight all night.
In the first set, the Patriots and Lady Tigers were going back and forth the whole set until Cumberlands jumped out 22-18 lead in the set. Campbellsville would try to rally back but fell 25-22 in the set.
The Patriots used a huge 7-1 lead early in the second set to try and get comfortable. Campbellsville worked their way back through the set to be able to take a 27-25 set win.
The third set was a set of runs for both teams. Cumberlands jumped out to a huge 10-1 lead. Campbellsville would follow up with their own 9-1 run. Cumberlands kept control of the set the whole time without conceding the lead and winning 25-20.
In the fourth set, Campbellsville was able to keep their attacks precise in the early going of the set when tying the set at 4-4. The Patriots would gain control of the set and would not concede the lead the remaining time and win the set 25-22 and win the match 3-1.
Lady Tigers and the Patriots were deadlocked at 43 assists, while Campbellsville held an 88-83 advantage in digs.
Molly Shannon and
Cierra Merrick would lead the team on the attacking end of the ball. Shannon had 13 kills on the night while Merrick had 12.
Shannon was also able to gain a double-double on the night. Along with her 13 kills she was able to collect 10 digs and five total blocks. Joining Shannon was
Paige Merrick also in the double-double category. Paige had 38 assists on the night while also collecting 11 digs.
Salma Gonzales-Sosa led the way for the Lady Tigers in digs with 27.
Campbellsville will now look ahead towards their next opponent in Thomas More. That match will be held on October 21
st at Thomas More and will start at 7 p.m ET.
