Tigers score season opener win against Ohio Valley

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University men's basketball team made their debut in their home opener this evening. The Tigers are hosting the Lou Cunningham Classic at Powell Athletic Center this weekend. Campbellsville battled Ohio Valley University in Friday night's match up resulting in a score of 83-74.

Campbellsville offered fresh faces to the roster this season. Power duo, Jarius Key and Jace Wallace, are assets to the program as they come together from their previous college. Both players had impressive games this evening as they shined defensively recording a total of 12 rebounds.

The Tigers started the first half by winning the tip-off. The pressure didn't stop there as Campbellsville went on to score first. CU couldn't seem to find their groove after their first offensive run due to Ohio Valley's tough defense.

Despite the Tigers struggling to close the gap between them and the Fighting Scots, their defense did not disappoint. The Tigers opted for man-to-man defense as they were trailing Ohio Valley. Campbellsville was able to keep Ohio Valley within reach even as they entered in the second half.

Defensively, Ross Ryan was on the leaderboard along with Key and Wallace with a total of 6 rebounds. In the second half, Ryan pressed forward with sinking a jump shot, block, and defensive rebound to set the tone for Tigers. Peyton Broughton took charge down the stretch as he went 9-14 in field goals made and made three key threes. Broughton led the team offensively with 23 points and Key trailed behind him with 17 points.

The Lou Cunningham Classic continues as the Tigers return to the court tomorrow evening as they compete against Saint Xavier University (Ill.) at Powell Athletic Center. The match up will begin at 5:30 p.m. ET.
