Campbellsville comes up short in first MSC contest of the season

PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers traveled to Pikeville, Ky. to compete against the Bears. Campbellsville fell in overtime 92-87.

Campbellsville's starters in tonight's match-up included Peyton Broughton, Cameron Carmical, Jarius Key, Ross Ryan, and Jace Wallace.
 
Campbellsville was put off balance as UPike had a key player in Darius Love who posted 12 of the first 18 points in the opening eight minutes. The Tigers trailed the Bears by 14 points with 13 minutes to go in the half. Campbellsville scratched their way back as Carmical made a three and Keaston Brown made two threes back-to-back. After this nine-point run, the Tigers ended the half trailing the Bears 33-39.
 
Pikeville dominated Campbellsville in the paint with a total of 26 points whereas the Tigers had only six points in the area. Campbellsville couldn't handle the ball as well as the Bears which led to a total of seven turnovers compared to the Bears three. The Bears also outplayed Campbellsville defensively which left the Tigers trailing.
 
The second half was more rewarding for the Tigers. Campbellsville fluctuated between a deficit of two and eight points throughout the half. The Tigers finally earned their first lead at 47-47 since a 10-9 in the first half. With three minutes left on the clock, and the score at 74-73, Carmical sunk a three-pointer. As time winded down, both teams traded buckets and leads until regulation ended with both squads knotted at 79.
 
The Bears scored first in overtime and didn't look back. Turnovers plagued the Tigers in the extra period as they were outscored 13-8 for a final of 92-87. Points off turnovers fell in favor of Pikeville.
 
Offensive team leaders were Darius Harding (in his first appearance on the season) with 21 points and three players all with 12 points: Broughton, Carmical, and Malachi De Sousa.
 
The Tigers will hit the road again Saturday, November 20th. Campbellsville will take on another Mid-South conference foe in the University of the Cumberlands beginning at 4 p.m. ET.
