PIKEVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University women's basketball team traveled to the University of Pikeville to compete against the Bears. The Lady Tigers left the Appalachian Wireless Arena victorious over Pikeville with a score of 64-62.
The Lady Tiger starters included
Bailey Pedigo,
Faith Lake,
Lexy Lake,
Ashlee McGeorge, and
Courtney Pritchett. These five have started every game this season together thus far.
Campbellsville displayed their eagerness to score first by winning the tip. Despite claiming possession, the Lady Tigers couldn't advance in score. The result of two turnovers allowed the Bears to put up a score first. The Lady Tigers trailed UPike in field goals as they started off with two of 10 shots. Campbellsville ended the first quarter with a score of 15-16 trailing the Bears.
This trend found itself in the second quarter as well as Campbellsville couldn't muster up as many points as they typically are capable of. Although the Lady Tigers took more shots than UPike, Pikeville was able to knock down their shots. Three-pointers are typically a strong suit for the Lady Tigers, however the half ended with Campbellsville making one out of nine. The Lady Tigers finished the half with a 33-field goal percentage and trailed UPike 27 to 33.
The Lady Tigers kept up with UPike in scoring in the first part of the second half. In the third quarter, both the Bears and the Lady Tigers scored 19 points. Deep in the fourth, Campbellsville were down four points with a minute left to go. Pedigo displayed her leadership as she went on to earn the Lady tigers a lay-up after a missed three. Campbellsville then forced a jump ball in their full-court press which led Pedigo to score another lay-up on the inbounds. This crucial goal tied up the game. Pedigo was able to score yet again from an assist by a driving
Lauren Lee to take the lead with just 2.7 seconds remaining. Pedigo's last minute six-score run won the game for the Lady Tigers.
Offensive leaders included
Ashlee McGeorge with 16 points, Pedigo with 12, and
Faith Lake with 10. Defensively, McGeorge totaled 10 rebounds and Lee followed with eight.
The Lady Tigers are back in action Saturday, November 20
th at University of the Cumberlands. This Mid-South match up will begin at 2 p.m. ET.
