BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Tigers set off to Bowling Green, Ky. to compete against the Hilltoppers in an exhibition game Monday night. The game was hosted at Western Kentucky University in the E.A. Diddle Arena and Campbellsville traveled home with a loss of 61-82.
Campbellsville did not come into the arena expecting an easy win. Although the Tigers lost the tip-off, the men's basketball team came to score first. Campbellsville played a man-to-man defense which did not provide much room for the Hilltoppers to score.
The Tigers shooting percentage eventually faltered to that of the Hilltoppers. Campbellsville's field goal percentage was 18.4 percent less than Western Kentucky's. As the half came to a close, WKU led Campbellsville 37-23. At the half,
Ross Ryan and
Jarius Key led the team defensively. Together the two totaled 11 rebounds, Ryan (6) and Key (5). Key also led the steam with two of the three steals they had acquired in the half. Offensive leaders included
Malachi De Sousa with seven points and
Peyton Broughton following him with six points.
During the second half, Campbellsville struggled to find footing to score. The Hilltoppers seemed to have tightened their defense against the Tigers. Campbellsville lacked presence in the paint as WKU used their height and size advantages to score.
Despite getting beat defensively in the second, Campbellsville bettered their shooting. The Tigers improved their overall shooting percentage by 6.5 percentage.
Keaston Brown rose to the leader board as he finished the night with a total of 12 points. Broughton ended the night with 12 points as well and De Sousa followed with 11.
Campbellsville will compete next in Columbia, Ky. at Lindsey Wilson College's Lindsey Wilson Classic. The Tigers will first face off against Louisiana College at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday and then Southeastern Baptist College at 2 p.m. ET on Sunday.
