Big bench play results in Tigers victory over Louisiana Christian

COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Tigers traveled to Lindsey Wilson College to compete in the Sleep Inn Classic. Campbellsville would first match up against Louisiana Christian College. The Tigers left the Biggers Sports Center victorious with a score of 91-70 over the Wildcats.

The Tigers started off strong as they went on to score first. Jace Wallace earned a defensive rebound and ran the ball down the court to allow Jarius Key to pullup with a three-pointer. The offensive push didn't stop there as the Tigers added two more points to their lead. Tonight's Fighting Tigers went out to the court as if they had something to prove. This ambition shined through their aggressive offense and desire for the ball.

During the half, the Tigers held on to a 66.7 shooting percentage, which is a major improvement from their previous games. This year's team has plenty of versatility with player's ability to play multiple roles on the court. Campbellsville ended the half with a 60 percent field goal percentage whereas Louisiana Christian stood at 30.3 percent. The Tigers also were six-for-six in free throws to add to their total score. Campbellsville were leading Louisiana Christian 41-24 into the second half.

The Tigers kept up the tempo in the second half. Campbellsville was opportunistic in their drive to score. The Tigers spread the wealth as they zipped the ball around the court to one another. Start-of-the-season nerves seemed to have worn off as the Tigers showed more chemistry on the court. Campbellsville worked well together as they adopted more of a passing strategy to result in scoring. Midway through the second half, Campbellsville was beating Louisiana Christian by 10 points in the paint. Cameron Willis came off the bench firing as he went on a 13-point run with three threes, a lay-up, and two free throws.

The Tigers ended the night victorious over the Wildcats with a 63.5 shooting percentage. Offensive leader Wallace had his highest scoring game of the season with 20 points. Malachi De Sousa ended the night with 14 points, while Peyton Broughton and Willis trailed him with 13 points each. Wallace had himself a night as he also led the team defensively with eight rebounds. Out of the 24 total rebounds, Key and Broughton were second on the leader board as they had five rebounds a piece.

The Tigers return to the Sleep Inn Classic at Biggers Sports Center tomorrow afternoon. They will face off Southeastern Baptists College at 3 p.m. ET.
