CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The university men's soccer team defeated the Oakland City University Mighty Oaks for the NCCAA Mid-East Regional championship 2-0.
Campbellsville faced Oakland City early in the season. The Tigers were triumphant winning 3-1. Campbellsville started off inviolable as
Sebastiano Musu scored a goal in the eighth minute assisted by
Jairo Fernandez. Shortly after, Oakland City's physicality was univocal which rewarded Campbellsville a free kick. Although the kick was unsuccessful, the intensity of the Tigers didn't end.
Gustav Oskarsson scored an unassisted goal in the 15
th minute. Campbellsville continued to keep the ball in their favor as they had taken ten shot attempts toward the opponent's goal.
The Tigers went into halftime with imposing offensive statistics. Campbellsville went for ten goal attempts (with five shots on goal). The Tiger defense was robust as Oakland was only allowed four shots toward the Tiger goal.
Jeremi Campagnolo saved both shots on goal that the Mighty Oaks attempted. Neither team had received corner kicks throughout the duration of the first half.
The second half was a standoff of strength. Oakland City remained tough in their fight against the Tigers. Campbellsville switched their focus to defense and preventing Oakland from edging the score closer. Despite the defensive focus, the Tigers earned two corner kicks in the second half. The Tigers were triumphant in the contest against the Mighty Oaks holding them scoreless at 2-0.
Campagnolo recorded three saves. Musu demonstrated his desire to score with his five shots taken as well as his teammates
Pedro Ramos and
Rasmus Obling sharing three a piece.
The Tigers will now be traveling to Kissimmee, Florida for the NCCAA National Tournament beginning November 29
th.
