CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #1 Lady Tigers tipped-off against the Asbury University Eagles in Powell Athletic Center Wednesday evening. The match ended in Campbellsville's favor: 81-67.
The Eagles scored on their first possession of the contest but the Lady Tigers were able to advance their score to 4-3 with a pair of free throws by
Ashlee McGeorge and a layup by
Courtney Pritchett. The Eagles were capitalizing off shots from the perimeter whereas the Lady Tigers were shooting 20-percent for threes with two minutes left on the clock. With one-second remaining in the quarter,
Lauren Lee stole the ball to finish with a layup tying the game at 18.
Pritchett began the second quarter with an under-the-basket goal to take the first lead since the score stood at 4-3. This lead increased as Campbellsville went on an 8-0 run with the aid of multiple layups and free throws. The Eagles deployed their own full-court pressure defense and clawed back from the deficit. The Lady Tigers were leading by one when Campbellsville, yet again, went on an 8-0 run with the assistance of back-to-back threes from
Lexy Lake. The half came to a close in a score of 41-32 for the Lady Tigers.
The third quarter began with a backdoor layup to
Faith Lake from
Bailey Pedigo. Their shots close to the rim were crucial to the Lady Tiger lead as three back-to-back-to-back layups resulted in a 13-point spread. The Eagles were able to take three-points off the lead, but Campbellsville answered with an additional six-points creating a 17-point lead.
Lexy Lake tied her season-high in points made (which she set just one game prior) and three-point baskets as she dropped bombs from deep. The third period ended with a score of 64-45.
In the final quarter, the competition went back-and-forth in scoring.
Lexy Lake stayed on fire as she broke her season-high point total with another three.
Shyla Calbert followed behind her with her own three-point goal and the game was seemingly out of reach. Campbellsville was able to maintain and grow their lead due to their offensive rebounds. The Lady Tigers totaled 17 second-chance points. Campbellsville ended the contest 81-67 pushing the squad to 12-0 on the season.
Lexy Lake had herself a night as she totaled 23 points (7 three-pointers made), Pritchett followed her with 12, and McGeorge with 11. Pritchett totaled eight rebounds, also her season-high, and Lee had with six. Campbellsville ended the night at 38.5 percent from three reflective of their 38.3 percent average on the season. Campbellsville turned 24 Eagles turnovers into 36 points.
The Lady Tigers will next appear in the Surf N Hoops Classic on December 18-19
th. The first competition will begin at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
