CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The #1 Lady Tigers returned to the Donna Wise Court in Powell Athletic Center to compete against the (RV) Bethel University Wildcats. The match ended in a score of 71-64.
The Lady Tigers have produced a perfect record thus far this season (7-0) while Bethel University has gone 4-3. The Campbellsville starters included
Faith Lake,
Lexy Lake,
Ashlee McGeorge,
Bailey Pedigo, and
Courtney Pritchett.
The game started with Bethel winning the tip which resulted in a three-pointer from the Wildcats. The Lady Tigers first attempt was blocked and changed possession over to the Wildcats. The energy was high in the Powell Athletic Center as the Lady Tigers had to show their grit against the Wildcats' display of toughness. With 7:38 left on the clock, the score was tied 6-6. The Wildcats remained close as they were making big baskets and forcing Lady Tiger errors. The first quarter ended in a score of 22-19 in favor of Campbellsville.
The second quarter began with the same energy as the first. The Wildcats scored first with a backdoor layup unguarded by Lady Tiger defense.
Lexy Lake came back down court to sink a three-pointer to make the score 27-21.
Sarah Sutton came off the bench on fire as she hit back-back threes for the Lady Tigers. Campbellsville was producing buckets at every angle on the court capitalizing off Bethel's unstable footing. The Lady Tigers earned a 16-point lead. The Wildcats were able to close this gap to end the half 45-34 as Campbellsville led going into the second half of play.
The Lady Tigers were already putting up big numbers in the first half.
Lexy Lake led the team with 12 points, all of them being three-pointers. Sutton racked up ten points with two threes contributing to her total. Campbellsville's 60 percent field goal percentage nearly doubled the Wildcats' 35.5 percent.
As the third quarter began, both teams were playing solid defense under the basket making it difficult for either team to score. The Lady Tigers were blocked twice in back-to-back attempts in the first possession of play. Neither team was able to advance until Pedigo added two to their score with 8:12 on the board. After losing some ground,
Lauren Lee was able to hit an unguarded three at the perimeter. The third quarter ended with a seven-point Lady Tiger lead in a score of 61-54.
In the final quarter of the match-up, both teams were relentless in their mission to score. The first to score were the Wildcats with a layup two seconds after the two-minute mark. Sutton combatted this advance with a pull-up three-pointer. Bethel scratched at the score to close the gap. With some key layups and hitting game-securing free throws, Campbellsville was able to maintain at least a six-point lead for the remainder. With under a minute left,
Faith Lake had a huge block to turn possession over to the Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers won in a score of 71-64.
Several Lady Tigers finished with double digits in the scoring category. Sutton led with 15 points,
Lexy Lake followed with 14 points, while
Faith Lake,
Ashlee McGeorge, and
Courtney Pritchett each earned ten points apiece. Assist leaders go to Lee (5), Pedigo (4), and
Faith Lake (4). McGeorge lead in rebounds with six and Pritchett followed with five.
Campbellsville women's basketball team are now 8-0 on the season and will return to Powell Athletic Center on Tuesday, December 7
th. The Lady Tigers will compete against Lindsey Wilson College beginning at 6 p.m. ET.
