Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | CU Athletics

Marc Boye's second half goal is all the Tigers need to start spring semester with win

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. — A 53rd minute own-goal was the difference maker as Campbellsville men's soccer won 1-0 over University of the Cumberlands on Saturday evening.

The Tigers pick up their 10th win over Cumberlands in the last 11 meetings. Campbellsville out-shot Cumberlands 14-11 but the Patriots had six shots on frame while CU had only four. It was Jeremi Campagnolo coming up big with six saves to hold the Patriots scoreless.

In the first half, both teams finished with three shots on goal but couldn't find the back of the net and went into halftime nil-nil. In the second half, the Tigers capitalized just seven minutes in. The own goal came in the 53rd minute as CU's leading goal scorer, Sebastiano Musu, was credited with his second assist and the goal was given to Boye for his second goal of the year.

The Patriots came right back down just 39 seconds later after CU went ahead 1-0 and Campagnolo saved a shot by Sergio Infantes Castell. The Patriots only had one more shot on goal the remaining 30 minutes as CU held possession for the majority of the match.

With the win, Campbellsville improves to 6-1 overall and 1-0 inside Mid-South Conference play. Cumberlands drops to 1-4-1 overall and 1-1 inside the MSC.

Weather and field conditions permitting, the Tigers are now scheduled to host Life University on Tuesday, Feb. 23 as kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. ET at Finley Stadium.
