CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The final regular season game of the season for the Campbellsville University women's basketball team was a runaway as they were able to beat Shawnee State 98-67 Saturday afternoon at the Powell Athletic Center.
The opening 3:16 of the game started out pretty shaky for the Lady Tigers as Shawnee State jumped out to a 19-6 lead behind 13 points from SSU forward Carson Roney. CU was able to pull it back together with a 13-2 run to take a 22-21 lead that they never relinquished for the remainder of the game.
The second quarter was where Campbellsville really pulled away as they outscored the Bears 31-8 in the quarter as the Lady Tigers only missed two shots in the period going 13-for-15 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from three-point range.
The game was all but over with a Lady Tiger halftime lead of 61-33 but CU extended their lead by outscoring Shawnee State by nine in the third quarter before the Bears outscored Campbellsville 21-15 in the fourth.
It was a standout day within a standout season for senior
Sammy Rogers as she led all players with 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting from the field while going 4-of-5 from behind the three-point line. Rogers added five rebounds, three assists, and a blocked shot in her final home game of 2021.
Fellow senior
Savannah Gregory led the Lady Tigers in rebounding with nine in the game while only scoring four points. Gregory's presence, as usual, was felt all over the floor as she added four assists, three steals, and a blocked shot in the game.
Three other players outside of Rogers scored in double figures as
Lexy Lake went a perfect 7-for-7 from the field and 5-of-5 from three-point range to add a season-high 19 points. Both
Courtney Pritchett and
Sarah Sutton added 12 points for CU both were 5-for-7 from the floor, both had two rebounds, both had a steal, but Pritchett added four assists.
Roney led the Bears with 22 points as the only other player in double figures for Shawnee State was Brandie Snow with 11 points. SSU struggled from the field mightily in the second quarter as that was a main contributor to their 40.3 shooting percentage from the field in the game.
Campbellsville has finished in second place in the Mid-South Conference as they will receive a bye straight to Bowling Green, Ky. to play their quarterfinal game at 6 p.m. ET/5 p.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 27.
