Campbellsville can't overcome slow start as No. 17 Georgetown wins, 73-56

GEORGETOWN, Ky. — A rebounding margin over 20 and second chance points heavily in favor of No. 17 Georgetown College, Campbellsville couldn't come out of Davis-Reid Alumni Gym with a win on Monday night, falling 73-56.

Georgetown (15-4, 12-4 MSC) out-rebounded Campbellsville, 47-26, with 15 offensive rebounds compared to only three for CU. Georgetown picked up 19 second chance points and that was the difference maker all night.

Campbellsville (9-12, 7-11 MSC) was led in scoring by Taiveyhon Mason's 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting with five rebounds and two assists. No other Tiger scored in double figures.

Kyran Jones led the way for Georgetown with 20 points and 12 rebounds, while Derrin Boyd finished with 14 points and Jaquay Wales hit four 3-pointers to also finish with 14 points.

Georgetown started on fire leading 11-0 and the Tigers never worked the lead to single digits after a Boyd 3-pointer stretching the GC lead to 18-8.

After trailing by 16 points, 46-30, at halftime, Campbellsville was able to whittle the lead to 11 after Brayden Sebastian scored a layout with 13:10 to go. That was as close as CU would get the rest of the night.

Campbellsville gets back in action on Thursday night as the Tigers travel to Martin Methodist College for a doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m. ET. The Tigers are set to tip at 8 p.m. ET.
