SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Winning on a Friday in the Round of 16 doesn't give one much time to celebrate. Campbellsville will be back on the court Saturday against Indiana Wesleyan, 27 hours after the final horn sounded in their 69-53 victory over Lewis-Clark State.
Campbellsville meets the Wildcats, the 83-70 winner over Southeastern, in the NAIA Women's National Basketball Championship at Tyson Events Center.
The 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT matchup between the Lady Tigers and the Wildcats is the third between the two schools, with each team winning once.
IWU arrives in Sioux City fresh off a victory over No. 5 Marian in the finals of the Crossroads League tournament and then beat Indiana Tech 80-63 in the finals of the Crestwood Hills Bracket B to earn their 18th appearance in the national tourney.
CU defeated Bryan College 90-57 in Pool B of the Lakeland, Fla. bracket. To earn a trip to Iowa.
As per the latest NAIA protocols, there will be 20 percent spectator (about 1,600 people maximum) attendance allowed at the games. OFFENSIVE EFFICIENCY
- Through 22 games, the Lady Tigers continue to put the ball through the hoop, currently averaging 83 points per game while shooting over 47 percent from the field and 38 percent from 3-point range.
- In their 69-53 victory over Lewis-Clark, the Lady Tigers used a balanced attack, getting a 16-point performance from Sammy Rogers, who also grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds. Savannah Gregory scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds. In all, 10 Lady Tigers scored vs. the Warriors with Sarah Sutton, Ashlee McGeorge and Courtney Pritchett all chipping in eight points.
- Along with the NAIA's 36th-ranked scoring average and strong shooting percentages, CU has been able to move the ball well, leading to the nation's third-best assist average at 19.7 shares per game while also not turning it over too much with the NAIA's eighth best assist-to-turnover ratio at 1.278 and the fourth-best turnover margin at 8.524.
- Individually, Gregory and Rogers find themselves in various NAIA stat rankings as Gregory is 12th in steals per game (3.095) and total steals (65) while Rogers is 44th among NAIA players in 3-point field goal percentage (.410). Rogers leads the team in scoring at 15.5 points per game and Gregory drops in at 13 per game.
- Not to be forgotten are the Lady Tigers' point guards, sophomore Bailey Pedigo and freshman Lauren Lee who combine for seven assists per game. Courtney Pritchett, who operates in the post, is second on the team in assists (75) and second in rebounds among the starters at 4.2 per game.
- Campbellsville is turning their opponents over at a 24 per game clip, fourth in the nation.
SCOUTING INDIANA WESLEYAN
- The Wildcats hold a 24-6 record, 12-4 in the Crossroads Athletic Conference.
- Indiana Wesleyan has three players averaging double figures in scoring, led by Anne Secrest's 14.2 points per game. The Wildcats also rely on 13 points per game from Dayton Granger and 11 from Gabby Suarez.
- In their win over Southeastern, Secrest went off for 32. Jordan Reid had 14, Groniger 13 and Madison Davis added 11.
- As a team, Indiana Wesleyan shoots it at a 45 percent clip, 39 percent from 3 and hits a NAIA-best 82 percent of their free throws.
- Secrest's 7 rebounds per game leads the team and Suarez has connected with her teammates for 98 assists, ranking her 22nd in the nation.
MOVING FORWARD
- Should CU women's basketball win tomorrow they will advance to the NAIA semifinals, scheduled for Monday at 9 ET/8 CT against the winner of the Westmont-Clarke game.
