MARIETTA, Ga. – Looking to get a much-needed win after a pair of tough five-set losses, the Campbellsville University women's volleyball team did just that in a 3-1 win over Life University Monday night.
The Lady Tigers only dropped the second set on their way to a 25-19, 20-25, 25-20, and 25-22 win over the Running Eagles. LU had more kills, blocks, assists, and digs than the Lady Tigers but they also gave more points back to CU in errors finishing with 41 errors between attacking, setting, serving, and blocking to just 30 for Campbellsville.
Though Life had the top-two players in kills in the match in Lena Pucnik (18) and Mary Zimmerman (11), the Lady Tiger attack was well balanced with a slightly more efficient .173 hitting percentage.
The trio of
Sonia Flendrich,
Sophie Ball, and
Stela Velinova all had 10 kills for CU with
Taylor Weirich and
Hannah McGill adding seven kills apiece. Velinova and Weirich had a strong match in the middle of the attack as they combined for only four errors on their 42 total attacks as a combo while adding three of the team's five blocks.
Flendrich finished with a double-double adding a team-high 26 digs to her 10 kills as
Paige Merrick once again finished with a double-double at setter with a match-high 35 assists and 25 digs on the night.
The Lady Tigers remain on the road for their second match in as many days and third match in four days when they face off with Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tenn. for a 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT match start time.
