Lady Tigers fourth set comeback powers 3-1 win over Martin Methodist

PULASKI, Tenn. – Just 24 hours following a 3-1 road win at Life, the Campbellsville University women's volleyball team did it again, this time on the road against Martin Methodist College Tuesday night.
 
The Lady Tigers only dropped the second set of the night but were able to close out the first, third, and fourth sets to win by scores of 25-23, 21-25, 25-16, and 26-24.
 
The fourth set was crucial for CU to finish off as they trailed by as many as seven points at two different spots of the set as they were down 16-9 and 18-11 in the set. With the score at 18-11, Campbellsville went on a 6-0 run behind the serve of Ana Martin Barahona to bring the score back to within a point at 18-17.
 
During that run, the Lady Tigers only scored two kills with the first and last points of the run coming off of the hands of a CU player as the other four points came off of MMC errors. Still trailing after the run, Campbellsville scored two-straight points off of a Redhawk service error then a block from Stela Velinova and Sutton Mason to tie the score at 19-19.
 
The next important run came with CU down 20-19 as it started with a Paige Merrick kill then Katie Morin aced two serves with a Mason kill in the middle for a 4-0 run to put the Lady Tigers up 23-20.
 
Martin Methodist didn't back down as they were down to match point against before scoring three-straight of their own to tie the score at 24-24. Then Campbellsville was able to score the final two points of the match with a Hannah McGill kill and a match-clinching ace from Mason to finish off the 26-24 fourth set.
 
Sonia Flendrich was the match leader in kills as she finished with 14 with McGill (10), Mason (9), and Velinova (9) right behind her. Taylor Weirich had three important kills in the fourth set as she finished with six kills in the match and Merrick had another typical performance with a match-high 38 assists and 15 digs for a double-double.
 
Flendrich led the Lady Tigers with 20 digs for a double-double of her own with Morin finishing with 17 digs and Taylor Thacker adding 12 playing the back row rotation for Mason.
 
For the Redhawks, outside hitters Brianna Turner and Rebecka Cronin finished in double figures with kills at 13 and 10 respectively. Setter Fernanda Orsi had a double-double of her own with 36 assists and 20 digs as Cronin also added 13 digs for a double-double.
 
Campbellsville will return home now for three-straight matches at Gosser Gymnasium starting on Thursday when University of the Cumberlands comes to Campbellsville for a 7 p.m. ET start.
