Former NAIA Baseball All-American Brian Chase dies at the age of 34

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — It is with a heavy heart Campbellsville University athletics announces the passing of former NAIA Baseball All-American Brian Chase. He was 34 years of age.

Chase, from San Jose, California, was born February 6, 1987 in San Jose and passed away Friday, March 19, 2021 at his home in Campbellsville.

He is survived by his parents Alan and Gayle (Coats) Chase; two children: Rylan Colt Chase and Kieran Mays Chase, both of Campbellsville; a brother: Nathan Chase and his wife Stacy of San Jose and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family has chosen cremation and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

L.R. Petty Funeral Home in Campbellsville is in charge of arrangements.

Chase transferred to Campbellsville University during winter break of 2008-09 after making the leap from San Jose State in California where he was the team's everyday first baseman hitting .310 his sophomore year.

At Campbellsville, Chase blossomed into an NAIA All-American. During the 2009 season, Chase helped the Tigers reach their first NAIA World Series in program history after hitting .457 with 17 home runs and 71 RBI. He slugged an astonishing .811 and accounted for 30% of the runs Campbellsville scored that season.

In his career, he was a .387 hitter with 28 home runs and 117 RBI. His total home run count is fourth on the all-time list and his 117 RBI are fifth. His marks of 17 homers and 71 RBI during his junior campaign are both second on the single season lists.

Chase was a part of the final team that had won five straight Mid-South Conference Tournament titles from 2005-2009 and helped the Tigers to two MSC regular season crowns during his time at CU. He was a First-Team All-MSC performer both seasons.

Information on a memorial service for Chase will be posted once the family has made arrangements.
