WALESKA, Ga. – Only losing two total sets in three matches in their second Mid-South Conference Pod of the 2021 season, the Campbellsville University men's volleyball team earned wins over Life, Webber International, and Reinhardt in the matches hosted by Reinhardt.
The Tigers swept Life and Reinhardt by set scores of 25-23, 25-18, and 25-17 against Life then set scores of 25-19, 25-9, and 25-15 with the five-set match against Webber International finishing with set scores of 25-15, 20-25, 26-24, 21-25, and 15-11.
In the weekend opener against Life, CU had significant advantages offensively having 41 kills to 23 for the Running Eagles as the Tigers also finished with a .338 hitting percentage and Life hit for a .103 percentage.
Isaac Paches led all players with 11 kills in the match as the only player on either team to finish with double-digit kills.
Noah Henkel (8),
Rafael Cruz (7),
Ho Yin Leung (5),
Ramon Matos (5), and
Jakob Zum Kolk (4) also had multiple kills in support against Life.
In the tight match against Webber International, Campbellsville also had a more successful offensive match with the team kills going 59-41 in CU's favor and the Tigers holding a .100 advantage in hitting percentage for the overall match.
Once again, it was Paches leading all players as he improved to 17 kills over the five sets with
Jose Viera Cerame (11) and
Ramon Matos (11) also finishing with double digits. Cruz (6), Leung (6), and Zum Kolk (5) also had success from the outside for Campbellsville to bring depth to the CU attack.
Making quick work of Reinhardt on Saturday, this time it was the senior Cruz that led the match in kills with nine as Leung (7), Paches (6), Henkel (5), and Matos (4) strong in support of Cruz.
Jeremy Hernandez and
Ryan Smith split time as the back row/front row setters in all three matches with the combo finishing at double digit assists in both matches. Libero
Jay Montalvo finished the weekend with 35 total digs over the 11 total sets.
The Tigers have one more regular season match remaining and it will be CU's Senior Day next Saturday when they host Bluefield College at Gosser Gymnasium at 4 p.m. ET.
