CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – In their final home match of the 2020 season, the Campbellsville University women's volleyball team earned their third-straight sweep as they took a 3-0 win over Georgetown College.
The Lady Tigers improved their margin of victory in each set as they earned 25-18, 25-16, and 25-14 set wins on their way to the sweep. It was an important win for the Lady Tigers to get in terms of Mid-South Conference standings as they now hold the tiebreaker over Georgetown currently in line for the No. 2 seed in the regular season.
It was an outstanding night for outside hitter
Sonia Flendrich as the Wroclaw, Poland native finished with a season-high tying 18 kills, just one kill off of her career-high, on 34 total attacks with only two errors for a season-high .471 hitting percentage. Flendrich also added 10 digs in the match for a double-double, her 12
th double-double with kills and digs this season.
Flendrich was not the only double-double from the CU roster as setter
Paige Merrick finished the night with her 17
th double-double of the season, combining assists and digs as she finished with 39 assists and 15 digs.
On the same day that she earned her fifth MSC Defender of the Week, libero
Katie Morin earned her first-career double-double as she finished the match as the overall leader with 19 digs while adding 10 assists for the first time in her career.
Behind Flendrich, the attacking depth for the Lady Tigers had a strong night as well with
Sophie Ball just missing out on double figures at nine kills,
Stela Velinova adding eight kills,
Sutton Mason going 6-for-23 from the outside, while
Alina Zellin (4),
Taylor Weirich (2), and Merrick (3) also had multiple kills in the match.
Campbellsville will play their final two matches of the regular season on the road when they travel to Cumberland University and Lindsey Wilson College this Thursday and Saturday.
