MIDWAY, Ky. – The bats came alive for the second-straight game as the Campbellsville University baseball team as they earned a 16-8 win against Midway University on Tuesday afternoon.
It's the second-straight win for the Tigers and second-straight time they scored double-digit runs after scoring 13 in the second game of their doubleheader against Georgia Gwinnett last Saturday.
CU got off to a strong start at the plate as
Colton Titus led the game off with a double and was moved to third base before
Tyler Cox hit a two-run home run to centerfield, giving the Tigers a 2-0 lead early.
That lead lasted until the third inning when the Eagles hit two home runs in the inning with a leadoff shot by Max Hill then a two-run homer from Cameron Nichols to make it a 4-2 MU lead after they also got a run back in the first.
It was another home run that eventually knocked CU starter
Braxton Davis out of the game as Marquise Glenn hit a two-run homer to make it 6-2 Eagles in the fourth inning.
Heading into the fifth, it was Cox who once again came up with a runner on base as he sent his second home run of the day and fourth of the season out of the park to cut the lead in half at 6-4. The home runs didn't stop there as Midway added another solo shot, this time from Parker Walker off of
Mason Lee to make it 7-4 after five innings.
The sixth was important for the Tigers as they regained the lead and never gave it up after scoring seven runs in the inning, all without the long ball. CU got RBI hits in the inning from
Grant McQueary,
Cale Thompson,
Noah Amenta, and
Jaylin Turner as they ended the inning with an 11-7 lead.
After Midway made it 11-8 in the bottom of the seventh, it was another big inning from the Tigers in the eighth as they scored five, four from one big swing. Following a bases loaded walk to score a run,
Sam Fagerness came off the bench with the bases loaded once again with two outs to hit his second home run of the season for a grand slam to left to put it at the eventual final of 16-8.
The Tigers will head into the weekend for a Mid-South Conference series at home against Georgetown College this Friday and Saturday at HIG Field.
