Tiger baseball gets back to work with road series at Bethel

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – With a 2-1 start to their 2021 campaign, the Campbellsville University baseball team will hit the road for their first games away from CU of the season when they face Bethel University for a three-game series this Friday and Saturday.

Friday's single game is scheduled for a 5 p.m. ET/4 p.m. CT first pitch in McKenzie, Tenn. with Saturday's doubleheader scheduled to start at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT. All games will air on Bethel's Wildcat Vision online platform as they will allow fans to attend the baseball games if they provide their own seating, wear a mask, and keep at least six feet of distance between their family group and others.

TIGER NOTES
  • CU's offense had a successful opening day at the plate scoring six runs in the opener against Cumberland University and 11 in game two.
  • Jaylin Turner shined in his Tiger debut, hitting a pinch-hit three-run home run in his first ever at bat in a Campbellsville uniform before finishing his first start in game two 2-for-4 with an RBI.
  • Catcher Dutton Elske popped the other long ball for the Tigers in the series as he finished the week 2-5.
  • Leadoff man Colton Titus did well in his spot in the order, finishing the three games with five hits, three runs scored, and three walks in his 12 plate appearances.
  • It's been a war of attrition for CU the mound with a limited number of healthy and available arms at the disposal for the Tigers but last week's standout was Trestyn DuMilieu as he went four perfect innings out of the pen in last Thursday's season opener.

SCOUTING BETHEL
  • The Wildcats are 3-4 in the early going with a similar 2-1 record to CU in Mid-South Conference play as they earned a pair of wins in their series against Pikeville last weekend.
  • Before their pair of wins against the Bears, BU lost four straight including the opener to Pikeville after losses to Taylor and Blue Mountain.
  • In their limited action Jack Surber and Jacob Foster lead the Wildcats at the plate as both players have started all seven games to hit over .300 with Foster right at .300 and Surber at .364.
  • Nicholas Proto has missed two games but is the leading run producers for Bethel with six RBIs and a pair of home runs in five games played.
  • Bethel is led by a starting staff of Alex Valcarcel, Marco Santa, and Brandon Degnegaard as Valcarcel and Santa both sport a 3.75 ERA and Degnegaard struggling early to a 6.43 ERA.

LOOKING AHEAD
  • Campbellsville will hope to finally get their first non-conference games of the season in when they travel to Rio Grande, Ohio to face University of Rio Grande next Tuesday.
