CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Looking to bounce back coming off of a loss, the Campbellsville University women's volleyball team wasn't able to get back into the win column as they dropped a 3-1 match to Freed-Hardeman University.
The sets went in favor of the Lions 25-19, 25-22, 20-25, and 25-19 as CU was able to avoid the sweep in the third but couldn't pull it to a fifth set to put more pressure onto FHU.
Statistically, the match was pretty even across the board but the Lady Tigers just came up short on most categories including one of the most important in a match, hitting percentage as Freed-Hardeman finished with a .206-.172 advantage.
Kacey Donegan for the Lions led all players with 18 kills, including the match-clinching kill in the fourth set to finish with that match-high. She was just one kill better than
Sutton Mason from CU as the redshirt sophomore finished with 17 kills on 40 total attacks for a strong .375 hitting percentage.
Behind Mason's team-high performance,
Sonia Flendrich added 13 kills on the night but it was somewhat of a struggle for other front row players for the Lady Tigers.
Sophie Ball added eight kills but hit for a .103 attack percentage, middle blockers
Alina Zellin and
Taylor Weirich added five and four kills respectively but Weirich hit for a -.190 percetnage.
Donegan's support was more efficient with Claire Walker (15) and Ann Elise Jackson (10) finishing both over .300 in percentage with double digit kills. FHU libero Reilly Fulton was all over the floor defensively as she finished with a match-high 29 digs and did not make a service reception error.
Campbellsville will stay home for a Saturday afternoon Mid-South Conference match against Bethel University.
