Lady Tigers get back on track with 3-0 sweep of Bethel

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Coming into Saturday trying to snap a two-match losing streak, the Campbellsville University women's volleyball team left no doubt in their 3-0 sweep of Bethel at Gosser Gymnasium on Saturday evening.

CU earned their set wins by scores of 25-20, 25-10, and 25-15 as they played a strong overall match, especially defensively.

The Lady Tigers finished with six total blocks and 49 digs on Bethel's 109 total attacks to lead to the Wildcats low hitting percentage of .009. In two of the three sets, Bethel finished with a negative hitting percentage, finishing those sets with more errors than kills.

In one of her best matches of the season, Sonia Flendrich finished with 11 kills and 17 digs, her third-highest combined total for those two categories of the season, and the highest in a three-set match.

Flendrich was second on the team in kills as Sutton Mason finished with a match-high 13 kills, six in the third set, to lead the way up front. Both Mason and Flendrich were relatively efficient with Mason finishing at a .281 hitting percentage and Flendrich finishing 11-for-26 (.423) with no errors in the match.

Sophie Ball (6), Alina Zellin (4), Paige Merrick (4), and Taylor Weirich (2) all had multiple kills in the match in support of Flendrich and Mason. Merrick came up just a bit short of another double-double but she finished the match with 32 assists and seven digs with libero Katie Morin adding double digit digs at 10 in the match.

Bethel leader on the attack was Hannah McGowan as she had eight kills on 32 attacks with seven errors for a .031 hitting percentage.

Next up for the Lady Tigers will be a matchup with Georgetown College next Monday at 6 p.m. on the road to start a stretch of three-straight road matches.
