Lady Tigers sweep Georgetown for decisive road win

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Campbellsville University women's volleyball team did something they hadn't accomplished since 2011 and that's win a road match against Georgetown College.

The Lady Tigers earned a 3-0 win by set scores of 25-19, 27-25, and 25-16 as CU was able to use a strong defensive game to earn their advantage in the win.

Campbellsville was outscored via the kill 36-35 by Georgetown but it was CU's blocks and Georgetown's errors that helped Campbellsville pull away in the early stages of their match.

CU recorded 12 total blocks to just six for Georgetown as Alina Zellin and Taylor Weirich helped produce 10 of the 12 blocks. Zellin was in on seven blocks with two solo blocks and five block assists as Weirich added a solo and two assisted blocks in the middle.

On the back row defensively, three Lady Tigers finished with double digit digs led by libero Katie Morin's match-high 27 digs. Sonia Flendrich and Sophie Ball also added 19 and 16 digs respectively as Ball finished with the team-high in kills at 10 as well for a double-double.

Sutton Mason was next behind Ball with nine kills as she was in on three blocks as well and she added nine digs in the match. Flendrich added six kills, Zellin had five kills along with her blocks and setter Paige Merrick added four kills to go along with her 28 assists.

The Lady Tigers will play two more matches this week when they stay on the road to face University of the Cumberlands and University of Pikeville on Thursday and Sunday respectively.
