Tiger soccer deflates Thomas More with 3-0 win on Sunday afternoon

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. —  Two goals separated by four minutes in the first half and a lone goal in half number two, helped Campbellsville University men's soccer deflate Thomas More Sunday afternoon, 3-0.

Campbellsville (8-2-1, 3-1-1 MSC) was dominating possession through the first 30 minutes. The Tigers were creating opportunity after opportunity but had nothing to show for. A turnover in the defensive third by the Saints, had numbers out for CU and Gustav Oskarsson drove deep into the left side of the box when he found the head of Sebastiano Musu for the Tigers first goal. This was Oskarsson's third assist and Musu's 10th goal of the season.

That amped up the pressure for CU. On the next possession for the Saints, Campbellsville put them in a tough position with a throw back in their defensive half. Exactly four minutes after Musu struck, Eleder Goicoechea found possession right outside of the Thomas More box. Nobody was home and Campbellsville would go back-to-back in under five minutes.

Campbellsville would take a 2-0 lead into halftime after a few more chances in the final minutes.

The second half, both teams were creating opportunities. The defense stood strong for both clubs. Campbellsville hit the post, the cross bar and a one handed save by Saints keeper James Spindley, to still lead by two. In the 76th minute, Calvin Heck would launch a ball into the box, that eventually rolled into the net. Campbellsville would go on to shutout Thomas More, 3-0.

Jeremi Campagnolo and the back line for Campbellsville stayed busy. The freshman would pick up three saves throughout the contest and the Saints only put three of their eight shots on goal. CU would fire 17 shots, framing eight of those attempts.

Campbellsville returns home on Tuesday night in a battle of the Tiger with Georgetown College. Kickoff is slated for 8 p.m. ET at Finley Stadium. The game will be broadcasted live via the Campbellsville University Sports Network.
